About Talcum Powder
Talcum Powder is a fibrous powder made by heavily refined hydrated magnesium silicate. This refined and powdered form of the talc mineral is the main ingredient used in baby powder and other cosmetic products for the face and body. Although this product is widely used among women for feminine hygiene, Johnson & Johnson and other manufacturers have failed to adequately warn consumers about the dangerous risks associated with the use of the talcum powder found in their products.
The life-threatening risks of using talcum powder have been studied by researchers for many decades. Research has shown that it is possible that when talcum powder is used on or near the pelvic or genital area, the powder can make its way through the vagina, uterus, and fallopian tubes to the ovaries and the tissue, creating an increased risk of ovarian and fallopian tube cancer. The body is not able to easily get rid of the particles, which may then result in inflammation and even cancerous tumors. Aside from the direct contact with the mucous membrane, research has shown that the powder may also suppress certain antibodies, further increasing the risk of cancer. Additionally, studies have shown an increased risk of lung cancer and other respiratory diseases when talcum powder that contains asbestos is inhaled.
To date, nearly 5,000 talc claims have been filed against Johnson & Johnson, alleging that the company knew of the risk of ovarian cancer linked to its Baby Powder and Shower to Shower products, but chose to ignore the studies. Women have recovered tens to hundreds of millions of dollars in talc awards for compensatory and punitive damages. You may be one of the many consumers entitled to compensation from the drug manufacturer through a legal claim. If you or a loved one was diagnosed with ovarian or fallopian tube cancer after using Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder or Shower to Shower powder, or if you believe you or a loved one has suffered from a talcum powder-related health issue, please contact our firm immediately for a free consultation. Damages may include medical expenses, loss of wages, pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of consortium, and funeral expenses. Please do not delay as these cases are time-sensitive.
